OCAG launched Moor in Bloom 2007

Background

Urban Regeneration can be a one off or an ongoing regeneration by local authorities or communities carried out in a large town or city in formerly deprived areas of housing, commerce and industry e.g. redundant commercial/industrial premises, substandard residential buildings, derelict land.  Such an area may include peripheral housing estates built after slum clearance programmes of the 1960's and therefore outside what is commonly known as 'the inner city'.  The regeneration programmes submitted for this category must have become an integral part of the urban community achieving long term improvement for the local environment and demonstrating community involvement.

2007 Result

Silver Award - Categories are split into five sections A - E.
Last year Judges awarded; Standard Gold for C -  E. B was Standard Silver and A Certificate of Achievement.   Section A is Floral Display.

2008 Competition

This year Moor in Bloom has working on improving section A by introduced hanging baskets around 15 lamp post at Sapley Square. The basket were purchased by Luminus and Huntingdon District Council provided the plants.  Sustainable planting has been introduced at Sapley Square in front of a new car park.

Allotment holders have been working hard since spring producing very pleasing results. With the kind permission of Huntingdon Town Council offering space at the allotments, OCAG environmental group have worked three weekends digging, weeding with the result of three very large flower beds enhancing the social area of the allotments.

Coneygear Park has a new trim trail and there are plans for a Sensory Garden.  The wild flower area is even better than last year.

Thongsley Residents Association introduced a community garden. With the help of TRA young 5 - 12 year old have planted and cared for a wonderful community garden.

All schools are concentrating on ECO gardens, with very good results.
